Top Ideas from Startup Weekend Contest in Jakarta

Jakarta Startup Weekend was held on 5th- 7th July, closed with three winners at the peak of the event – DapurCity was chosen the third best followed by Pulse.co.id and Bill.E grabbed the top place. On the first day the event at @america, there were 30 ideas that pitched. The event was attended by 120 entrepreneurs and other 50 attendees comprised of venture capitalists, @america communities and startup enthusiasts. Some of Startup Weekend attendees were the new blood in Indonesia’s tech scene who are trying to learn about making profitable and customer validated startups in the future, but there were also hackathon veterans and former startups employees. It was a good mix of people with a ratio for non-tech:designer:programmer being 3:1:2. In the end, from all the 30 ideas that pitched it was down sized into 12 companies as below:
  • Sekolah PD - A tutor matching platform. To help students who are searching for tutors online connecting to private tutors.
  • GooGetit - App to help you achieve your dreams through the support of friends and people through social network.
  • Downtown Cross Training - Location based mobile app to help connecting sport enthusiasts to share locations & work out together.
  • Patungan - Crowdfunding platform to help chipping in for people who wants to pay for something together.
  • TKZI - Mobile apps platform for taxi orders & fare estimates.
  • Bill.E - Digitizing paper receipts to help managing monthly expenses.
  • DapurCity - Pop-up market platform for amateur, professional, or household food provider. Let’s just say it’s AirBnB for food.
  • Lentera - Online media platform for high school education & tutoring courses.
  • Pulse.co.ID - Bracelet like hardware that records the activities of the user and uploads it to the online platform. It’s like Nike Fuel & Jawbone Up but with more affordable price.
  • Invitation Hero - Online printing for Invitations and delivery service.
  • Favoureats - Media platform that curates interesting food
  • Team Match - Matching sports team to challenge random competitors in soccer, basketball, airsoft, and other games.

Startup Weekend Jakarta was organized by Grupara Inc, an Indonesian based investment company which focuses on investing in  early stage startups. The event was facilitated by Amarit Charoenpan of HUBBA Thailand, a Thai entrepreneur who wants to help building Asia’s startup ecosystem.

GRUPARA|Inc. invests in startups that have potential and able to be marketed globally. Other than giving fundings, we also help those startup to grow by giving them mentorship, advices, networking, and business supports. There will be mentorship from experienced Indonesian and foreign companies. All incubated companies’ will be gathered in the same office so they could communicate and help each other
